Having left my family to continue enjoying the delights of Disney's Animal Kingdom, I proceeded to the Magic Kingdom to work at the Haunted Mansion. All was well, until a guest lost his balance and used me to break his fall.
Unfortunately this entailed jamming his forearm/elbow into my shoulder/neck region. This of course hurt a lot and as it was my neck area the managers insisted on calling an Alpha Unit (i.e. an ambulence) who came to look at me. They then insisted I be braced and strapped to a board to go to Emergency at Celebration Hospital. Apparently you don't argue with an Alpha Unit so off I went.
Of course I was still in costume and the nearest backstage gate to access the ambulence is up in Fantasyland (Haunted Mansion is in Liberty Square). This meant I was strapped to a board on the ambulence trolley and wheeled through the park, which was chocker block full of guests! I couldn't see anything but the sky, but I could hear everyone going "Ooh look at that", "Must be serious", "I think the ghosts got her". So embarrasing, and I was in pain too!
The ride to Emergency (my first ever in an ambulence) was truly uncomfortable, and on top of that I couldn't move, so all I got to see was the ceiling.
I stayed at the hospital for about 2 hours, they gave me some pain killers and then sent me away. One of my managers had come to be with me and she was able to give me a lift home (back to the All Star Resort) where I met up with my family, who had been blissfully unaware as no-one from work had been able to contact them!
Sorry no pics in this blog, my managers offered to take some of me strapped to the board but I declined.
It was an interesting kind of day!
